A Real Variable Method for the Cauchy Transform, and Analytic Capacity
Auteure: Takafumi Murai
Nombre de pages: 134
This research monograph studies the Cauchy transform on curves with the object of formulating a precise estimate of analytic capacity. The note is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is a review of the Calderón commutator. In the second chapter, a real variable method for the Cauchy transform is given using only the rising sun lemma. The final and principal chapter uses the method of the second chapter to compare analytic capacity with integral-geometric quantities. The prerequisites for reading this book are basic knowledge of singular integrals and function theory. It addresses specialists and graduate students in function theory and in fluid dynamics.

One of the approaches to the study of functions of several complex variables is to use methods originating in real analysis. In this concise book, the author gives a lucid presentation of how these methods produce a variety of global existence theorems in the theory of functions (based on the characterization of holomorphic functions as weak solutions of the Cauchy-Riemann equations). Emphasis is on recent results, including an L^2 extension theorem for holomorphic functions, that have brought a deeper understanding of pseudoconvexity and plurisubharmonic functions. Based on Oka's theorems and.
This book contains a collection of papers covering recent progress in a number of areas of singularity theory. Topics include blow analyticity, recent progress in the research on equivalence relations of maps and functions, sufficiency of jets, and the transversality theorem. . Geometric and analytic studies of partial differential equations have been developed independently of one another, but the shock wave solutions appearing in natural phenomena are not well understood. Singularity theory may unify these studies and a survey based on this viewpoint is presented in which a new notion of weak solution is introduced. There are also reports on the recent progress in Zariski's conjecture on multiplicities of hypersurfaces, transcendency of analytic sets and on the topology of weighted homogeneous polynomials. This book will be of particular interest to specialists in singularities, partial differential equations, algebraic geometry and control theory.

Cauchy Problem for Noneffectively Hyperbolic Operators

Annotation At a double characteristic point of a differential operator with real characteristics, the linearization of the Hamilton vector field of the principal symbol is called the Hamilton map and according to either the Hamilton map has non-zero real eigenvalues or not, the operator is said to be effectively hyperbolic or noneffectively hyperbolic. For noneffectively hyperbolic operators, it was proved in the late of 1970s that for the Cauchy problem to be C well posed the subprincipal symbol has to be real and bounded, in modulus, by the sum of modulus of pure imaginary eigenvalues of the Hamilton map. It has been recognized that what is crucial to the C well-posedness is not only the Hamilton map but also the behavior of orbits of the Hamilton flow near the double characteristic manifold and the Hamilton map itself is not enough to determine completely the behavior of orbits of the flow. Strikingly enough, if there is an orbit of the Hamilton flow which lands tangentially on the double characteristic manifold then the Cauchy problem is not C well posed even though the Levi condition is satisfied, only well posed in much smaller function spaces, the Gevrey class of order 1 s...

Harmonic Analysis on Exponential Solvable Lie Groups
Auteure: Hidenori Fujiwara , Jean Ludwig
Nombre de pages: 465
This book is the first one that brings together recent results on the harmonic analysis of exponential solvable Lie groups. There still are many interesting open problems, and the book contributes to the future progress of this research field. As well, various related topics are presented to motivate young researchers. The orbit method invented by Kirillov is applied to study basic problems in the analysis on exponential solvable Lie groups. This method tells us that the unitary dual of these groups is realized as the space of their coadjoint orbits. This fact is established using the Mackey theory for induced representations, and that mechanism is explained first. One of the fundamental problems in the representation theory is the irreducible decomposition of induced or restricted representations. Therefore, these decompositions are studied in detail before proceeding to various related problems: the multiplicity formula, Plancherel formulas, intertwining operators, Frobenius reciprocity, and associated algebras of invariant differential operators. The main reasoning in the proof of the assertions made here is induction, and for this there are not many tools available. Thus a...

This volume consists of eight original survey papers written by invited lecturers in connection with a conference 'Variational Methods for Evolving Objects' held at Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan, July 30 - August 3, 2012. The topics of papers vary widely from problems in image processing to dynamics of topological defects, and all involve some nonlinear phenomena of current major research interests. These papers are carefully prepared so that they serve as a good starting point of investigation for graduate students and new comers to the field and are strongly recommended.Published by Mathematical Society of Japan and distributed by World Scientific Publishing Co. for all markets except North America
Measures on Infinite Dimensional Spaces
Auteure: Yasuo Yamasaki
Nombre de pages: 276
This book is based on lectures given at Yale and Kyoto Universities and provides a self-contained detailed exposition of the following subjects: 1) The construction of infinite dimensional measures, 2) Invariance and quasi-invariance of measures under translations. This book furnishes an important tool for the analysis of physical systems with infinite degrees of freedom (such as field theory, statistical physics and field dynamics) by providing material on the foundations of these problems.
